Belay Guide $35

A belay guide is a Boulder Bear staff member who will accompany your group for one hour, allowing them to have full access to all of the roped climbs in the facility. This type of booking includes the harness rental.

Intro to Climbing Course $45

This course is designed for participants age 13 and up. The participants will be shown how to tie knots, use equipment and operate the ropes for one another using our top ropes. This package comes with a one-week membership as well as rental equipment for the day the course is taken. This course takes between an hour to an hour and a half.

Refresher $10

The refresher is designed for those who have previous belaying experience but would like a 20 minute course to brush up on their skills prior to the belay test.

Advanced Lesson $45

The advanced lesson is designed for those looking to further their climbing abilities. The advanced lesson can cover the topic of technique or lead climbing. One of our advanced instructors can teach technique in order to improve the efficiency of your climbing or they can also teach participant’s how to lead climb and lead belay. If the participant is looking to learn to lead belay, they need to bring their own appropriately rated climbing rope. This course can take between and hour or two hours depending on the group.

Boulder Bear Climbing Centre offers a unique, challenging, and fun environment to host birthday parties, school groups, corporate events, or any other group looking for an active and fun activity. Our experienced staff will take care of all of the safety so you and your children can relax and have fun.

Your birthday party booking will include:

  • 2 1/2 hours of access to Climbing

Please note:

  • Parents are welcome to watch or participate in the climbing.
  • Party guests are not permitted to use the fitness equipment.
  • A deposit of $120 + HST  (equal to 5 party guests) will be required at the time of booking.
  • Cancellations may be made, free of charge, up to a week before the party date.
  • If cancellations are made within 48 hours of the party date, the deosaite forfeited.


Hibernation Throw down Competition

Saturday, december 3rd

The Hibernation Throw down Competition is for people of all skill and ability levels in climbing. The roped area of the gym will be entirely re-set for this competition. Competition fee is $40 due upon arrival of the competition. Great prizes and cool competition shirts are up for grabs! Call or come in to register.

Friday Night Climb Off

At the end of each month, two of our members will go head to head in a climb off. Members who wish to be considered for this event will have to let the front desk staff know. Two members who climb at similar difficulty levels will be chosen to compete on two brand new routes set specifically for them. The two members will be facing away from the wall (so they can’t copy each other) and each has five minutes to attempt to reach the top of the route without falling. The member who scores the highest will receive the “Ultimate Climber Hat”, which they will hang onto until the next climb off event, but they have to add something to it to give it some character. This is going to end up being a pretty funky hat by the end of the year! All are welcome to come and watch the excitement from 7:00 – 9:00 pm Friday, September 30th!

Sunday Ladies Only Nights

Starting Sunday, October 2nd, every other Sunday night for 6:30-8:30 will be ladies on climbing night. Standard day pass or membership fees apply and and additional $2 will also be required as a donation. At the end of each three month block, the $2 collected will be donated to a women specific charity in Thunder Bay. Come on out ladies as we climb to try and catch up with the boys!

Kids That Rock: Mondays OR Wednesday 5:30 - 6:30

Kids That Rock: This program is geared to children 7 years of age and under. The program runs for ten weeks with one, one-hour class per week. The climbers will be introduced to the sports of rock climbing and bouldering. The classes will consist of warm up, roped climbing and bouldering with some climbing related games. The emphasis is on fun and making the new climbers comfortable in a gym environment and moving over rock efficiently. This program includes instruction, harness and day pass. COST: $140 per climber. Children should have indoor footwear Option to include climbing shoe rental is an additional $30 for the entire program. Classes will run on Monday or Wednesday from 5:30 to 6:30.

Summiteers: This program is designed for climbers between the ages of 8 and 11. The program runs for 10 weeks with one 1.5-hour class per week. The children will be instructed on roped climbing and bouldering. This age group will also be exposed to the safety equipment and given an introduction to various knots and belay techniques. This group will also be given an introduction to climbing related fitness.  This program includes instruction, harness, and day pass. All climbers should have indoor footwear. Classes will run on Tuesday or Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00. COST: $275 per climber. Climbing shoes can be rented for an additional $30 for the entire session.   

Crimpers: This program is the twice a week option for the Summiteers program. More exposure to climbing will increase the climber’s development. This program will run twice a week for 10 weeks with 2, 1.5-hours classes a week. COST: $500 per climber. Includes instruction, harness and day pass. All climbers need indoor footwear. Climbing shoes can be rented for an additional $60 for the entire session. These classes will run Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7:00.  

Jibs: This program is for people 12 and up. This class runs for 10 weeks with one, climbing and bouldering. This age group will be instructed in the safety technique learn how to tie knots and belay properly. There will be more emphasis placed on climbing technique and more exposure to climbing related fitness. Classes will run Monday or Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30. COST: $275 per climber. This includes instruction, harness and day pass. All climbers should have indoor footwear. Climbing shoes can be rented for an additional $30 per for the entire session.

Dynos: This is the twice a week option for the Jibs program. The more exposure to climbing a child receive the more enjoyment they will have and the quicker they will develop. This program runs twice a week for 10 weeks. Classes are Monday and Wednesday from 7:00 to 8:30. COST: $500 per climber. Includes instruction harness and day pass. All climbers need indoor footwear. Climbing shoes can be rented for $60 for the entire session.

Competitive: The competitive program is designed for athletes that want to push their climbing to the next level. The focus of this program is having each climber excel at their level and to steadily improve of the course of a competitive season. This program is a personal result based program and a completion placing based program. The completion aspect is for the enjoyment of the sport and the opportunity to meet climbers from other areas and countries. Athletes will be instructed in climbing techniques, fitness, lead climbing, belaying both on top rope and lead, indoor and outdoor climbing, bouldering and proper nutrition for healthy lifestyle. athletes will have the opportunity to compete in a variety of competitions throughout the year in a variety of locations. Training will be Monday and Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 and Sunday from 4:00 to 5:30. COST: $1760. $1000 due at registration and $760 due January 09/2017. This will include instruction throughout the competition season (SEPT to mid June) and an annual membership, local competition fee and Team shirt.

What you need to bring: (ALWAYS DRESS FOR THE OUTDOORS)

-          Indoor Shoes

-          2 snacks and a lunch

-          Appropriate footwear and clothing for days spent outdoors

-          Water bottle

-          A photocopy of the participant’s health card

-          Have previously filled out a Boulder Bear waiver form

Outdoor Guiding


Intro to Rock:  3 Hours, Boulder Bear brings all the gear. Does all the set up and heavy lifting. You just come and climb till you can’t climb anymore. Held at the Bluffs, Silver Harbour or Pass Lake. $30 per person.

Transition Gym to Rock: 6 Hours, Indoor to Outdoor. Start off at Boulder Bear Climbing Centre and learn all of the knots and top rope systems in the on the ground in the gym setting. After mastering the material in a controlled environment we will spend the afternoon out at the cliff putting into practice what we learned in the morning session. Locations: Bluffs, Silver Harbour and Pass Lake. $60 per Person.

Beginner Rock: 4 Hours, a great introduction to climbing. Let Boulder Bear supply all the gear. Learn the necessary knots, how to belay, cliff safety and basic climbing technique. Locations: Bluffs, Silver Harbour and Pass Lake $40 per Person.

Group/Family: 4 Hours. Let Boulder Bear plan your next group outing or family activity. We will bring all the gear you need, set everything up and provide you with a fantastic experience. All you need to do is pick the destination, show up and be ready to climb.$35 per person. 

Private Sessions: You pick the place. You pick the topic or adventure. We supply the gear and the know how. 4 hour and 6 hour sessions. Call for pricing. 


We have Madrock demo shoes and are also able to order anything in from Black Diamond Equipment, Sterling Ropes and Madrock.

We also carry gym merchandise including water bottles, sweatshirts and long sleeve shirts!
